In a bid to improve student success and relieve families, the PLP government implemented a National School Breakfast Programme – the first of its kind – starting in 2022. 

Initially piloted in 9 public schools, by September 2024 the free breakfast programme had expanded to 91 schools, providing a nutritious morning meal to over 11,000 primary and pre-primary students three days per week. In February 2025, the Prime Minister celebrated the milestone of 500,000 breakfasts served since launch.

The Davis administration further reinstated and bolstered the school lunch programme, now providing free healthy lunches in targeted schools and increasing the per-student meal allotment. 

Beyond meals, schools have seen other social support: the reintroduction of free uniforms and textbook allowances for students in need, and the hiring of additional guidance counsellors to support at-risk youth (part of the HYPE anti-gang initiative in junior high schools).
