The PLP government has broken ground on new state-of-the-art clinics in several islands – in total, over 40 clinics will be expanded or renovated as a part of our efforts to improve access to quality healthcare throughout the nation.

For example, a $6.8 million clinic in Mangrove Cay, Andros began construction in late 2024. That 14,000 sq ft facility will feature hurricane-resistant design, an emergency wing, lab and X-ray units, telemedicine links, and even an attached morgue, allowing residents to get high-quality medical care without leaving their island. Similar clinic projects are underway in Eleuthera (Palmetto Point) and Exuma.

Phase 1 of the Grand Bahama hospital is underway and is set for completion in 2026. Steady progress is being made to lay the groundwork for the new hospital in New Providence, and renovations and improvements are happening at Princess Margaret Hospital.

As the government invests in healthcare infrastructure, it is also expanding access and improving standards through its expansion of NHI to cover more Bahamians and the expansion of the Prescription Drug Plan to cover over 160,000 Bahamians.
